Capacitor banks in non-sinusoidal voltage and current conditions
Abstract
Capacitor banks fall into a category of equipment whose operation is to a large extent adversely affected by electromagnetic environment with distorted voltages and currents. In such conditions they are subject to voltage, current and power overloads. Therefore capacitors' manufacturers provide permissible overload factors referred to these quantities and expressed as multiples of their nominal values. These factors define non-destructive conditions area for a capacitor bank butprolonged operation in overload conditions significantly shortens capacitors' service life.
