Principles of protection against electric shock in high voltage power lines

s. 8-22 DOI:

Abstract

Standard PN-EN 50341-1:2013-03E defines pinciples of protection against electric shock in high voltage overhead lines. Similarly as in its previous version, requirements for basic protection (protection against direct contact) are not included in this standard. Requirements for fault protection (protection against indirect contact), which basically depend on towers location, are introduced. For example, if the earth faults are automatically disconnected, resistance to earth and touch voltages are not limited for locations where towers are not freely accessible or where access by people will be rare (forest area, open countryside). Shock hazard caused by induced voltages in cables is described as well. Moreover principles of verification of the earthing system in high voltage power lines are presented. An example of the evaluation of protection against electric shock in the 15 kV line is also considered.
