Drive system with 5-phase permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM)

Abstract

The paper presents a proposed sensorless control system of a 5-phase permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM). The proposed system uses a state observer for the 1st harmonic variables and controls the 3rd harmonic variables in order to improve the torque density. A diagram of a complete control system is presented, along with the steady-state and transient waveforms registered during experimental tests on a prototype 5-phase PMSM machine.
