Spelling and Pronunciation of Names and Symbols of Measurement Units
Abstract
Based on the historical background the paper describes the current state of the standardization of measurement units. The article presents the basic and derived SI units as well as non-SI units accepted for use with the International System. Moreover the rules of correct spelling and pronunciation names and symbols of measurement units are discussed. Similar issues are explained in relation to multiples and submultiples of these units and to unit symbols obtained by multiplication and/or by division. Possible misunderstandings when using non-SI units have been pointed out. These principles should be observed in all the scientific texts and lectures
